America's Lesser-Known Presidents 25560A
In the season when we will be going to the polls to elect the next President, this timely course offers a look back at the history of the Presidency in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The lectures assume that the great Presidents that the country has had are relatively well-known, so they will be omitted in favor of the 20 that most know little about. The histories of these lesser-known Presidents may offer an interesting contrast with today's choices. Many of them served only one term, and more than a few came from modest backgrounds but served the country well, especially in the numerous wars of the 1800s. Though the rarity among these Presidents was truly outstanding in what he accomplished, some did better than might have been expected, some should have done better given their experience, some were truly inept, five died in office, and two were assassinated, but all of them live (or died) colorfully.
