Direct to consumer testing, for genealogy research, has exploded since it was first introduced in 2000. It is estimated that more than 35 million tests have been processed by the major sites. Controversy followed as law enforcement used consumer databases to solve crimes and cold cases. In the Fall of 2023, 23andMe experienced a data breach and hackers published information about people with Jewish ancestry. Bring your questions about testing, and if you've tested, feel free to bring your results to class.
